Feel Better Fast

When you feel mental or emotional discomfort or distress, sometimes you want to know how to experience immediate or rapid relief. I want to give you some tools to help you feel better fast. Once you feel better, then you can work on some of the underlying issues to feel better for the long term.

Quick Check

1.

Have you showered today? If not, take a shower. You'll feel better. It's amazing how one's outlook improves simply by getting clean.

2.

What have you been eating? Eat a piece of fruit or something healthy. If there's no healthy food in the house, then stop everything and go to the grocery store.

3.

How much have you slept in the past 48 hours? Take a nap so your body can restore itself. The body (and brain!) heals itself while you sleep. If you're not sleeping enough, your body can't heal.

4.

How long has it been since you got some fresh air? Get out of the house (even in your yard). Take a walk. Breathe. Get some sun. It's all good. Fresh air and exercise does wonders for one's outlook on life.

5.

Have you taken all your medications as prescribed? Get yourself back on track. Write it down. Put a reminder in your phone. Make a chart. Whatever you need to do. You'll feel better soon if you get back on schedule.

6.

Have you interacted with a human this week? Call a friend (or mom!), even if you can't get together. If possible, however, face-to-face meetings are better because we all need human touch and the affirmation of eye contact (not video).

7.

What have you done in the past month to help someone else? When you give love, you receive love. Check on a neighbor. Take cookies to an elderly friend. Find creative ways to help others.
